Why I’m A MaximumFun Donor

by Mike Vardy

There’s very few things that I end up giving some of my hard-earned money to these days.
I’m still a big fan of tithing, but with budgetary constraints one has to be more selective. I’m one of those who needed to apply some “donation curation” since my income can fluctuate from month to month. But the first podcasting network I gave money to continues to get it…because they put out quality with every show they do.

That network is MaximumFun.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t listen to everything they do these days…because I can’t. There’s just not enough time in the week to do so. But I make every effort to play “catch up” when I can, since podcast listening has essentially replaced television watching as my leisure activity. Jesse Thorn and his gang of broadcasting berzerkers put together some pretty funny stuff on an ongoing basis. Being funny and entertaining is a tough racket. Being consistently funny and entertaining is a rare gift.

Since MaximumFun gives me this gift every time I fire up one of their many shows, I think it’s only right that I give them the ability to keep making them. It’s a gift I end up getting back tenfold. And I like getting gifts.

The MaxFunDrive is on right now (in full swing) and if you’ve been listening to any of their shows (The Sound of Young America, Jordan Jesse Go, Judge John Hodgman, Stop Podcasting Yourself, etc.) and haven’t given yet this year, I implore you to pony up some dough. You can offer as little as $2 per month, with incentives for those who donate more. I’m a Challenge Donor again this year, meaning that I’ll be giving a one-time donation based on how many donors pitch in as well as my monthly donation that I’ve kept going from last year.

Running the MaximumFun network may not cost “maximum funds”, but they do need some to keep making better and better stuff for us to consume. I’m glad to be a donor…and I hope you’ll join me.
