Things on My Mac That I Love, Things On My Mac That I Don’t

by Mike Vardy

I love my Mac. And I make no apologies for that.
That said, there are things on my Mac that I love and then there things on my Mac that I don’t.1 I’m not going to offer the “whys” on either front in this piece — I’ll explain some of them over the next several months, if I haven’t done so already. What I’m offering today are lists that cover both sides of the equation.

Things on my Mac that I like:

  • Sparrow
  • 1Password
  • Reeder
  • TextExpander
  • Rdio
  • OmniFocus
  • Fantastical
  • Viewfinder
  • Evernote
  • Paperless
  • Acorn
  • Scrivener
  • Flow

Things on my Mac that I don’t:

  • The dang beach ball
  • Anything that brings up the dang beach ball2

As I see it, there are two ways to get rid of the “don’t” items and keep the loved ones lovable:

  • Do a clean install of OS X Lion
  • Buy a new Mac

The former is an option at present. The latter needs a bit more padding in the pocketbook beforehand.3

Guess what I’m doing this weekend?

1 I’m not going to outline what I like or “really” like on my Mac, because I don’t want to write a post of “Siracusian” length.
2 Things like Finder, web browsers, iTunes, iPhoto, Skype…there’s more but I’m kind of “beach balling” myself right now.
3 Because I’m getting this one.
