Rdio is the Netflix of Music

by Mike Vardy

I just started using Rdio…and I really like it. Really, really like it.
When Adam King and I connected on it by following each other, he had this to say to me via Twitter:

“I’ve said it before: Rdio is the Netflix of music.”

Totally agree. Except that, in my estimation, Rdio already has far more content in Canada than Netflix.

I stopped paying for Netflix shortly after starting a subscription. With all of the content that I’ve already found on Rdio that I happen to love, I’m betting that I’ll keep using it for much longer than Netflix.

I can already think of a couple of reasons why that’s going to be the case:

  1. I can listen to music while I work. I can’t watch video while I work. Rdio wins by virtue of the senses.
  2. My iTunes is getting really bloated. It’s become a resource hog. Using Rdio keeps me from using iTunes — allowing me to open it only when necessary. Rdio wins by virtue of its sensibility.

I’m sure I’ll be able to think of more1 as I get better acquainted with Rdio. But for now I’m just going to go listen to some Screaming Trees.

1 But I don’t think it means this.
